COUNTRY STYLE CHARITY CHALLENGE 2017

Three Peaks Challenge Raises £10,000!

Over the years, there have been other challenges, and countless feats of endurance by our Country Style comrades. They’ve left us shattered, battered and sometimes humiliated, but ultimately, hungry for more.

This year, we took on our most ambitious project yet - the Three Peaks Challenge. On Saturday 27th May, our 36-strong team travelled from the distant corners of this land (like Leeds, Wigan, Flint, Stockton and Peterlee) to conquer Scotland’s Ben Nevis, England’s Scafell Pike and Wales’ Snowdon, all within 24 hours.

At 6:00pm on 27th May, our brave adventurers began the daunting climb up the 4,411ft high Ben Nevis, started tackling Scafell Pike at 5am on 28th (while you were all cosied up in bed) and returned from the scramble down Mount Snowdon at 6pm, when they got a hero’s welcome in Llanberis at the Royal Victoria Hotel in Snowdonia.

There was mud, sweat and tears before the glory, but our band of brothers lived to tell the tale. The challenge was tough yet rewarding, and all in the name of three fantastic causes - Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, the Paediatric Services at the Countess of Chester Hospital and St. Gemma’s Hospice - for which we raised £10,000 overall.

NO TRAIN, NO GAIN

After a bright and early 8am meetup at the Penyghent café, our training weekend was scaling the Yorkshire three peaks.

Take a gander at the Country Style Charity Challenge training day video to see how our fearsome lot prepared themselves for conquering the mountains…

THE CAuses

We’re proud to say that our courageous group are took on the famous National Three Peaks in aid of three very worthy causes. In the past, we’ve been associated with many great charities including Candlelighters, Crisis and Leeds Community Foundation.

This year, we supported different, but equally worthwhile charities.

The North East charity will be Zoe’s Place - a provider of palliative, respite and end-of-life care for children up to 5 years old. With hospices in Coventry, Liverpool and Middlesbrough, Zoe’s Place are able to give 24/7 medical and emotional support to children and their families, in various places across the country. The hospices aim to be a ‘home away from home’ to all those affected by life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

The North West and North Wales charity will be the Paediatric Services at the Countess of Chester Hospital. These fantastic services provide treatment for the full range of both acute and chronic childhood illnesses, for inpatients, day cases and outpatients. Illnesses treated can range from epilepsy, cystic fibrosis and diabetes right through to dermatological issues and asthma allergies. Specialist Paediatric Nurses treat patients both in the hospital and in the community.

The Yorkshire charity will be St Gemma’s Hospice - a Leeds-based charity providing expert care and support for local people with terminal illnesses. Their partnership with the University of Leeds has led to their recognition as an outstanding model for improving care of those approaching the end of life through integrated research, teaching and clinical practice.

All three are outstanding causes that bring happiness into the lives of many, and each will benefit greatly from the money we raiseD completing this mammoth challenge.
